 FAQ

How safe is Equine Bug-off for my horse?

Equine Bug-Off is 14 times safer than an aspirin and formulated to affect insects not mammals. Studies show the only animals affected by the insecticide in Equine Bug-Off are insects and fish.

Because of the high safety value of the Equine Bug-Off wax additive, not only is it safe to use on the outside of your trailer, but it is also safe for interior application!

How often will I need to apply coating?

Equine Bug-Off wax additive - As a wax additive, Equine Bug-Off has an effective residual of 1 year. To maintain the effectiveness of this insecticide, rinse your trailer with water periodically to create better contact between the insect and the treated surface.

Equine Bug-Off paint additive - As a paint additive, Equine Bug-Off has a 2-year residual span. As with the wax application, rinsing the treated area with water periodically will help to increase the effective rate of the product over time.

How much wax additive do I need for my trailer?

The amount needed for a trailer is dependent upon the size of your trailer so the larger the trailer the more you will need. We recommend using a double application process to ensure maximum coverage.

A 5 gal. treatment package will cover 1500 sq. ft. of surface. To learn more about trailer coverage, CLICK HERE for listing of common trailer sizes and recommended amounts.

How much paint additive do I need for my stalls or barn?

If you are using Equine Bug-Off paint additive the ratio for coverage is 1.33 oz of treatment per one gallon of paint so how much you will need to cover your stalls or barn depends upon how many gallons of paint you will use.

NOTE: Paint which has been treated must be used within 3 hours of mixing.

Can the wax additive be used on wood stalls?

Absolutely! Today, more and more stalls are being built with Tongue-and-Grooved siding and by using the wax additive not only will you be gaining the advantage of an insecticide but you will also be creating another layer of projection for your wood stalls.

Your treatment ratio for wooden stalls would be the same as your trailer application of 1500 sq. ft. per treatment package. And like your trailer wax additive, the duration of the insecticide effectiveness will be 1 year and will need to be rinsed off from time to time for better contact between the treatment and the insect.

Which insects are affected by Equine Bug-Off?

Equine Bug-Off kills insects two different ways
1. When crawling insects crawl over the treated surface.
2. When flying insects land on the treated surface.

Because of these two different techniques, Equine Bug-Off kills most crawling and flying insects ranging from ants to mosquitoes and cockroaches to silverfish and weevil.

An independent article on the effectiveness of Equine Bug-Off's active ingredient, Deltamethrin, has showed a very favorable mortality rate on mosquitoes, stable flies, horseflies and fleas. To read more on this study go to Deltamethrin article
